Why Uniglass?

Ultra Tough, UK

Ultra Tough, a fast-growing U.K. enterprise, has always taken pride in being prepared for the future. The most recent step in this direction was the purchase of two Uniglass furnaces, the Unicharge and UniTop, for a new factory in Welham Green, Hertfordshire.

The key drivers behind the investment were not only the need to meet environmental legislation as it becomes more stringent, but also the desire to meet customer needs in all glass types. Careful study showed that the double Uniglass solution was best. In the new set up, the Unicharge will be used for core production of 4-6 mm toughened glass, while the UniTop will be used to toughen architectural glass and for production backup. Cooperation between the two companies dates back to 2001, the year Ultra Tough was established and also bought its first Uniglass furnace.

Dean Modha, head of strategic planning and business development at Ultra Tough, sums up the purchase as follows: "We decided on certain performance criteria - and Uniglass did the job it is specified to do. We are also familiar with the products and personnel of Uniglass, and this was very important for us when we made the choice."
